My Santa Fe art studio and floral garden provides daily inspiration along with monsoon winds and bird song, coyotes and silent starry nights of New Mexico. My creative process comes from my childhood in Northern California. I loved to lay outdoors on our lawn and dream of creatures running amok in my mother's garden. My childhood memories of those sunny lazy days created a framework for my work. My floral works have been described as playful, yet sophisticated because of my use of color. I work with Turner Acrylic Gouache and Acrylic pens, and lots of color. I like matt finishes mixed with metallics and I follow an illustrative process, much like a coloring book. I like to move eyes around the canvas. I play with scale and simplified shapes. I use reference photos, but riff on what I see, like a jazz musican and my work never ends up looking like any photos I use. I consider my work worldly and childlike at the same time, a unique combination and something I strive to create each day.
